Process by-product filtration
Recovering valuable material from the air stream, so what used to be dust becomes product again.
In many processes the dust in the air stream is worth money: aluminium, copper, steel oxides, cement, pigments, milk powder or minerals. A dust collector placed on the process recovers this material in a dry and clean state so it can be reused or sold.
Because the collected product has value, cleaning efficiency directly affects yield. Reverse pulse jet cleaning with correctly sized valves releases the cake in one shot, keeps the hopper flowing and prevents the material from caking on the media.
Typical installation
- A header tank system built to the plant layout, in carbon steel, stainless steel or aluminium
- Goyen or Mecair full immersion valves for maximum pulse energy
- Blow pipes and venturis tuned to the bag or cartridge length
- A sequencer with on demand cleaning to protect fragile product
Common challenges
- Hygroscopic or sticky product caking on the filter media
- Product loss through a poorly cleaned or damaged element
- Explosion risk with metal powders and organic dust
- Contamination between production runs when the product changes
Industries
- Aluminium and non-ferrous
- Steel and foundries
- Cement and minerals
- Chemicals and pigments
- Food and dairy
- Recycling
Questions
Why is pulse quality so important when recovering product?
Every gram left on the media is product you do not sell, and a blinded filter raises the fan energy. A strong, well timed pulse maximises recovery and keeps the pressure drop stable.
Which tank material should I choose?
Carbon steel is the standard, stainless steel suits food, dairy and corrosive products, and aluminium keeps the weight down on elevated or mobile installations. VDC manufactures all three.
Do you handle explosive dust?
Yes. For combustible metal and organic dust we supply ATEX certified enclosures and header tank systems in an ATEX configuration.
Can I get a system built to my own drawing?
Yes. VDC designs and manufactures custom header tank systems worldwide, including the valve layout, piping, supports and certification.
