How a pulse-jet dust collector works
Pulse valves, header tanks, controllers and compressed air work together to clean the filters of baghouse and cartridge dust collectors while the installation stays online.
The cleaning cycle
Dust-laden air passes through the filter media and leaves a dust cake on the outside. As the cake builds up, differential pressure rises and airflow drops. A controller fires a pilot valve, which opens a diaphragm pulse valve on the header tank. The tank releases a short burst of compressed air into the blow tube, the shock wave flexes the media, and the dust cake falls into the hopper.
What determines cleaning performance
- Header tank volume and pressure at the valve
- Valve size and orifice matched to the blow tube
- Pulse duration and interval set on the controller
- Diaphragm condition and the correct repair kit
- Dry, oil-free compressed air
